Solar Energy: pollution free and environment friendly
The amount of solar energy that reaches the earth in one hour is equal to the overall, global energy consumption for one year.
The sun provides an incredible natural resource. Tapping into this resource is good for the environment and can substantially reduce your energy bills.
EMS provides a comprehensive range of solar solutions allowing you to use our suns energy and reduce your energy costs. For more details on each of these solutions please click on any of the product headings below:
Wind Power: the power of wind is yours for the taking.
The Isle of Man has one of the best wind resources in Europe. Generate renewable energy using only the power of the wind with our turbines.
EMS provides a comprehensive range of elegant and innovative wind turbines from 50 watts right up to 10 Kilowatts.
The turbines we use are rated for the harsh wind speeds that can be experienced on the Island and are designed to cope with the salt mist environment that we live in.
Wind turbines can be connected to the grid to offset your electricity bills or alternatively be connected to batteries to store the energy to use as required. They can also be combined with Solar Photovoltaic systems.
There are almost too many choices; Oil, Natural Gas, LPG, Electricity, Solar Thermodynamics, Air Source Heat Pumps, Ground Source Heat Pumps………
All of the above solutions are available from EMS - we will provide impartial advice for your project and the pro’s and con’s to each solution.
Did you know that heating your house with electricity could actually have the lowest running cost?
For a new build property we would always recommend under floor heating. It is more efficient, runs at lower temperatures, and provides comfortable controllable heating with no “hot spots”.
EMS offer a FREE heating consultancy backed up by a complete project management process - click here for more details.
If you have an existing boiler we can service it for you – we are OFTEC and GAS SAFE qualified.
Thermal Imaging is an inexpensive method of surveying buildings, roofs, floors and machinery without disruption.
For the home / building owner EMS can survey the property to locate defects or underlying problems.
Infrared Thermal Imaging can be used for:
Tracing sources of dampness, poor insulation and resulting heat loss
Identifying faults in underfloor heating systems
Locate structure behind paneling
Look for leaks in flat roofs
Identifying these areas of heat loss, damp etc means that quick and often low cost solutions can be found and energy /heating bills quickly reduced.
Heat can be lost through masonry, windows, poor draught proofing, roofs, flashing - in fact almost anywhere resulting in higher energy bills than necessary.
The examples on our data sheets show various examples and remedies.
Voltage Optimisation: a simple way to reduce your electricity bills with no change in lifestyle
In association with VPhase. Voltage Optimisation controls and regulates the mains voltage supplied to your home. You can find out much more information on the VPhase website.
In general the electricity supplied to many homes in the Isle of Man hovers around 243 volts. In 1995 the voltage in Europe was declared as harmonised at 230 volts. In short you are paying for more electricity than your appliance needs to operate efficiently.
Our Elecsave unit reduces this to 220 volts reducing your electricity bills and saving you money.
Solar Thermodynamic Systems: to provide hot water & heating, even at night.
The most cost efficient way to heat your home ! It is possible to more than half the cost of gas or oil central heating AND reduce your overall electricity costs! Ask us how.
Eco-friendly Solar heating that works in the sun, rain, wind and even at sub-zero temperatures. The Energie thermodynamic solar system represents a giant leap forward in solar heating technology. By using a refrigerant gas in the panels rather than water they can easily work summer or winter, sunshine or rain. In fact, the special solar panels are very efficient at extracting the heat from rain. The Energy system is comprised of special, lightweight solar panels which are usually roof mounted (but can be mounted vertically on walls), and a heat exchanger. It will very efficiently generate heat even on cloudy, cold days.
Applications: Central Heating, Domestic Hot Water, Swimming Pool Heating.
Solar Photovoltaic (PV): solutions to produce electricity from the sun.
A reliable and predictable way of generating your own electricity - even in the Isle of Man. Solar PV panels can be connected to the mains (grid) or to batteries.
The Solar PV panels we use are based on Thin Film technology – this means they operate better in low light conditions. The level of yield available from our Micromorph panels is on average 12% higher than crystalline panels and benefits from a 25 year performance warranty. The product technology means that low-pitch or vertical installations, or east and west facing installations are viable.
Whilst the Isle of Man does not have a Feed in Tariff as such for every unit of electricity you can off set your electricity bill and effectively be paid 15.99p per unit. The higher the energy costs the more you save.
You can see two of our small PV battery systems (also combined with small vertical axis wind turbines) on the TT course. These Solar panels produce electricity to power the weather station equipment which transmits information to the Governments Meteorological Office at Ronaldsway. The weather might not always be great but we’re helping bring the information to you!
Solar Thermal systems are used to produce free hot water, pool heating and assisted central heating. Our products will work year round as they operate on light – NOT heat – to provide domestic hot water and / or assisted central heating.
The main types of Solar Thermal systems are generally known as Flat Plate Collectors or Evacuated Tube Systems. Our Evacuated Tube Systems are some 30% more efficient than Flat Plate Collectors and have a longer lifespan. There are evacuated tubes and evacuated tubes – ours are considered to be one of the highest performing in the World. We would be pleased to show you why.
Solar Dehumidifiers: banish damp & humidity – naturally
These “solar air heaters” are completely self-contained – no mains wiring is required as they contain their own Solar Photovoltaic panel which drives a circulating fan.
Mounted on a southerly aspect wall, fresh air is drawn in, heated and blown into the property.
This ensures the air inside is changed regularly with dry, slightly heated air. The end result is natural dehumidification removing damp, moisture and mould.

PASSIVSYSTEMS ™
You could reduce your heating and hot water bills by 23%. On a £1600 Gas or Oil bill that could be as much as £368 a year - every year. Welcome to the future...
The system learns how people live in their homes, how long it takes for homes to heat up (and cool down), how long it takes hot water to get to that perfect temperature and how much energy a household uses.
With this knowledge the product manages existing systems to heat the home and hot water no earlier than is absolutely necessary. It learns the thermal properties of your home, the performance of your heating and hot water system, and your everyday preferences and usage patterns.
Built to work with existing heating and hot water systems, new installations and renewable energy systems. It will change the way you use energy at home forever; saving you money, cutting out waste and making life more comfortable.
There’s even an iPhone app so you can let it know you’re coming home early and put the heating on and a web interface.
Wind speed data is published by the Department of Energy & Climate Change.
The wind resource on the Island is considered good with an average wind speed of no less than 6-7 M/S (Metres per Second). A site with an average wind speed of 4-5 M/S is usually considered sufficient to make installing a wind turbine a worthwhile investment.
